Here is a glass polishing board, used to provide a super flat surface for polishing other items. When polishing a metal part, one technique is to put extra fine frit sandpaper onto a glass board, such as this one, and then rub the part against the sandpaper. Picture glass, being very flat, makes an idea surface.

The glass is glued with epoxy to a fiber composite 3/4" backing board. the backing board provides strength and protects against breaking the glass or causing cuts. The glass size is 9" x 10.5", and the overall siz is 9-1/2" x 11".
